Pfeifer-Huisele adventure trail

This themed trail, with information boards about the legendary sorcerer Pfeifer Huisele, passes directly by Alpura and leads to the impressive Pfeifer-Huisele gorge. From the panoramic platform there, you can experience the roaring waterfalls up close.

Gilfenklamm gorge

In this spectacular marble gorge, the Ratschings stream has carved deep into pure white marble. Between towering rock faces and thundering waterfalls, you can walk through the gorge directly from Alpura on a circular route with walkways and bridges.

Mountain Adventure World Ratschings

This hiking trail, reachable on foot from Alpura, starts at the mountain station of the Ratschings-Jaufen mountain lift at an altitude of 1,800m. On the approximately 45-minute pushchair-friendly circular trail, the whole family can play and have fun at various attractions, including marmot tunnels, the children’s Alpine pasture, the SoundWorld, the squirrel tower, the KneippWorld, and much more.

Ratschings-Jaufen ski area

In just 3 minutes you can reach the family-friendly and snow-sure ski and hiking area Ratschings-Jaufen with our free e-shuttle. On 28km of wide and perfectly groomed slopes for all skill levels, young and old can enjoy fantastic days on the snow. Just as worthwhile: the action-packed toboggan run and the many well-signposted winter hiking trails.

Almenweg trail

The approximately 14km-long Ratschings Almenweg trail takes you through a magnificent natural landscape, passing seven mountain huts: Kalcheralm, Rinneralm, Summit, Wasserfalleralm, Saxnerhütte, Außere Wumblsalm, and Klammalm. As a day hike for families who enjoy walking, it starts on the Jaufen road and runs all the way to Flading. Alternatively, the huts can also be reached individually directly from Alpura: after a short ride on the mountain lift, you walk a section of the Almenweg trail to the hut of your choice.

Sterzing

The medieval town impresses with its picturesque old town centre with historic gates, narrow alleyways and the famous “Zwölferturm”, a 46-metre high, late Gothic town tower. As a member of the association “Borghi più belli d’Italia”, Sterzing is one of the most beautiful medieval towns in the country.

Skytrek high ropes course

At the northern entrance to Sterzing, just a few minutes from the centre, the Skytrek high ropes course takes you up into airy heights. In a large forest area, you can test your limits on several courses featuring suspension bridges, nets, ropes, and long ziplines.

Milchhof Sterzing

Here you can taste South Tyrol in its purest form: fresh hay milk, creamy yoghurts, finest butter, and tasty cream. Founded over 100 years ago, the cooperative combines the efforts of the surrounding farmers by collecting, processing, and marketing their milk. In the shop, you can stock up on regional delicacies – perfect as a tasty souvenir or a snack for on the go.

In the Rosskopf ski and hiking area, pure variety awaits you – whether it’s an easy tour with the whole family up to the “Köpfl” (its 2,189m-high summit), magical and contemplative moments at the wishing bell, or the thrill of flying over the impressive mountain world on the panoramic swing.

Mountain Coaster, Rossy Walk, and more

Rosskopf offers plenty of unforgettable family adventures: on the Panorama Mountain Coaster, a 1.3km-long rail toboggan run, you thunder down into the valley at speeds of up to 40km/h, and in Rossy Park with petting zoo, adventure playground, and guided llama trekking, eyes light up for young and old alike. Also worthwhile is the pushchair-friendly themed trail Rossy Walk, which introduces the mountain nature in a playful way at 8 stations.

Winter toboggan run at Rosskopf

As the longest illuminated and snow-covered toboggan run in Italy, it promises unparalleled fun. From the Rosskopf mountain station at 1,860m, you race down 10km and 900m of altitude through spectacular forests all the way to the valley station in Sterzing. You can conveniently rent the toboggans directly from the ski shop at the valley station.

Ladurns

This family-friendly ski and hiking area is impressive in every season – in summer with adrenaline-fuelled mountain cart descents on a 6.5km-long winding route, Alpine hut hikes, and the Dolomieu trail; in winter with 18 sunny kilometres of slopes for all ability levels, ski school, a toboggan run, winter hiking trails, and cosy huts for a little break.

Wolfsthurn castle

The originally furnished state rooms of the magnificent Baroque ensemble near Mareit are home to the South Tyrolean Museum of Hunting and Fishing. The exciting “Forest and Water” nature trail leads up to the castle, where you can learn all kinds of interesting facts about the region, its forests, and waters at interactive stations.

Mining museum

The mining museum at Schneeberg in Ridnaun traces the harsh life of the miners underground. With original preserved machines, tunnels, and tools, it offers a fascinating insight into the era of silver and ore extraction in the region.

The quiet side valley inspires in many ways: along the child-friendly mushroom trail, young and old can discover the world of fungi in a playful way, and in winter Pfitschertal valley is a hidden gem for cross-country skiing enthusiasts, with its 20km of perfectly prepared trails. A rewarding destination in every season: Prantneralm hut, with wide views over Sterzing and the surrounding mountain landscape.

Reifenstein castle

The well-preserved medieval Reifenstein castle towers majestically over the village of Freienfeld, near Sterzing. Visitors can explore the keep, the palas, the “Green Hall”, and even a torture chamber. The highlight for young adventure fans: the regularly held knight tournaments for children aged 5 to 9, where your kids can immerse in the exciting world of the Middle Ages.

Rafting Tiger

With experienced guides, a wetsuit, and a helmet, you set off safely and adventurously in an inflatable raft along the Eisack river, through splashing rapids and calm stretches. The tours are equally suitable for beginners and adrenaline seekers.
